EQUINE SWIMMING POOL

Swimming of horses has long been accepted as a highly beneficial exercise for conditioning and rehabilitation.

Swimming develops excellent muscle tone and helps improve cardiovascular  function and fitness, while keeping the horse's weight off the legs and joints.

Swimming can considerably shorten recovery times compared to traditional methods of box rest and phased return to normal exercise. Swimming is often possible for horses with injuries which prevent other forms of exercise.

Higher Spen Equine operates a modern, purpose built equine swimming pool. The swimming pool is circular enabling short or longer swimming sessions, and allowing the horse to exercise on both 'reins'. At over 3m wide and 3m deep, the pool can accommodate horses of any size.

Benefits of equine swimming:

  • Builds fitness and stamina and improves muscle tone
  • Improves flexibility and promotes lengthening of stride
  • Non concussive form of exercise, avoiding strain and pressure on joints, bones and ligaments
  • Can shorten recovery time post injury or medical treatment
  • Promotes weight loss
  • Highly beneficial in the treatment of Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Laminitis
  • Provides variation to a horse's exercise regime

We offer swimming on a short or long term residential programmes. We also offer one off swim sessions to those that have been on a residential stay with us.

Please call us to discuss the specific needs of your horse.
